What I DON’T Want !!

Some years back, I drew up a list of all the things I did not want in my life – in effect all the things which, if I was not careful, would waste my time and pull me down.

I fell across that list recently and am posting it here to help anyone who reads it to get their business life in order. I have left off some of the more personal items originally on my list.

Draw up your own list and work on eradicating these things from your business life.

WHAT I DON’T WANT IN MY LIFE……

  • Wasting time on things which do not earm me money.
  • Prevarication of any sort.
  • Not earning enough.
  • People who suck my brains, and my time.
  • Associating with people who pull me down and who demotivate me.
  • Not having a plan, therefore having no focus.
  • Chasing the latest bright shiny object.
  • Having to be on the phone all the time.
  • A business totally reliant on me.
  • Bad marketing.
  • Not enough prospects.

Try it for yourself – create your own list – then work on making sure those things are NOT in your life.

Your USP is your Unique Selling Proposition, and it is what differentiates you from everyone else in your space. It lifts you out of the run of the mill and helps to make you special and different.

And there is a simple formula for creating your USP which I will give you here…….

It is – - – - “I help/teach A to B even if C”

So, if you were in the weight loss market, and decided to target new moms and help them lose weight, here is an example of what your USP could be, using the formula above – I help new Moms to lose weight even if they have no time.

Or perhaps you are a web designer who wants to coach small business owners to create their own website – I teach small business owners to build their own website, even if they know nothing about webdesign or internet marketing.

So there you have it. You now know the formula for creating your own USP, so go do it, and do it now – good luck.

I get asked so many times about the subject of not just good sales copy, but good copy layout on a website.

Specifically, people ask me if there is a system, or even a template of some sort, which they can use to both create good sales copy and also use in a “systemised” way in their marketing material.

Well, the answer is most definitely yes.

So, let me give you the simplest of templates, one which is used by every top marketer I know, not just on their website, but in all their marketing material, from sales brochures to sales letters and emails, and even sales videos.

It is in 5 parts.

  1. State the problem, or pain, your prospect is suffering from.
  2. Enhance that problem – elevate their pain.
  3. State your solution to their problem or pain, and say why you are best suited to provide this solution with back up testimonials.
  4. Provide an irrestible offer.
  5. Provide an irretible guyarantee.

As stated, you should use this template on ALL of your marketing i.e. your website, your sale brochures if you use them, your sales letters, videos etc etc etc.

You will find specific real life examples of how to put this to use in my free book, available from this site. I take problems which prospects are suffering from and use the template to show anyone how simple it is to lay out good sales copy every time.

Use this – today - it works.

This Business Coaching and Mentoring Tip should be the core to your business success; sadly however that is not always the case.

Let me first of all ask you a few questions.

Do you have a profile of your ideal client? Do you first of all know the exact demographic you are targeting? Do you know their needs and wants? Do you know how you can help them?

I could ask many, many more, and if the answer to these in the negative, then you have a problem.

So, let me take two of my clients as examples to explain myself.

I work with a celebrity client in the presentation skills marketplace, teaching and coaching business professionals on their public speaking and presentation skills.

This client knows EXACTLY what her ideal customer looks like – she even has photographs of them on her site. She attends meetings, events and speaking engagements where she knows her ideal customers gather.

All her marketing material, websirte sales copy etc. is targeted directly at this ideal client – she almost literally adresses and writes to this ideal client via her marketing.

And guess what? This is the customer who is attracted to her business – her ideal customer.

Let us know look at the other end of the spectrum.

The other customer I would like to talk about is in the property marketplace and whereas he now knows the type of customer he is looking for, he has never targeted them, nor tried to attract them. And guess what again? – they have not “found him”. Indeed some of his customers have been troublesome and he has few testimonials from them – less than ideal !!

But we are currently in the process of redoing all his marketing so that, once we had his ideal customer defined. he is now targeting that ideal customer in his marketing.

Once that is complete, his customer profile will change completely. He will now be working with people he wants to work with, rather that those he has to work with for sake of sales revenue.

You see you must “talk to the one” – never to the many. If you try and talk to the many, nobody can hear you, you will end up talking to noone.

Think about who you want to attract to your buisness – think about that ideal customer. Now define that ideal customer so you can almost hold your hand out and shake theirs.

And then when you have done that, focus all of your marketing on that one person – literally” talk to the one”.

The results you will experience could be dramatic.

You find the people you want to work with and your ideal customer is very happy with you and now becomes a source of great referrals and testimonials rather than a pain in the proverbial, or someone who both sucks your brains and your time.

Life is too short. Decide the ideal customer you want to work with, follow the outlines explained above, and life will become both happier and a lot more profitable !!

I had considered for some time whether I should include more business coaching and mentoring tips on this site in addition to what is included in my free book…………..and yes, I have decided to do just that.

My intention is to provide these tips in the form of pseudo “case studies”, by which I mean I will pass on those which I have given to clients and which I know have worked for them.

I will also do my best to put them into real life perspective by talking about the specific situation which they hellped, the market niche etc etc whilst naturally still protecting the confidentiality of my clients.
